Nature Focused Adverts & Affiliate Links on the Withywindle Blog

Since I occasionally include them on my site, I thought it might be helpful for me to spell out my views on ads and affiliate links so readers know where I’m coming from.

I’m a professional naturalist; educating people about the natural world is what I do, and I think I do a decent job at it.  And if you’ve read more than a couple of my posts, you’re probably aware that I have two lovely boys and a fantastic husband. All that being true, I need to get paid for the work I do. I sincerely wish we lived in a world where our educators were more highly valued, and it was easier to make ends meet for a family of four being raised by two educators. But that’s not my reality. So I need an income – as do most – in order to keep doing what I love. Having advertisements and affiliate links on my blog are one way of (possibly) making that happen. So if you happen to click-through to a site, remember that it helps me do what I do.

But I promise, that my ads and affiliates are only for organizations or products that I sincerely trust, believe in, or which have a very complementary theme to my site. I’m not a fan of big, flashy ads, or having ads just for the sake of trying for a little income. If you have a question about anything you see on this site, feel free to let me know – your feedback is incredibly important to me. There’s not a whole lot of reason for me to run this blog without having at least a few readers that care about it with me. I’ll admit that it’s fun and rewarding all by itself, but really, my end goal is education.

Like the picture? Doesn’t really have much to do with anything – it’s just a really cool ad I found (on Smashingbuzz.com) when searching Google for advertising images. It was done for the World Wildlife Fund in 1997.

  1. I knew that these were things you believed in and that you needed the income. These ads do not slow down my browser like some of them so I don’t mind them and will check them out…I just posted about teaching on my blog and my husband as “The Cat In The Hat’…

    1. Glad to know that they appear in-line with my values. I’ll stop by and check out your post!
