Books From the Catskills

We took a trip to the to the Catskills to visit our family home there this week. Among other things (such as enjoying unseasonably warm weather and soaking in the beautiful mountain views) I took a trip to Saugerties to visit two bookstores I had never been to before. The first was Hope Farm Bookshop, which specializes in books on New York State (most of which are new). Upon talking with the owner Richard Frisbie, I discovered that he was a founding member of the International Online Booksellers Association (which we are also members of). The second shop we visited was OUR (Old, Used and Rare) Bookshop. We got there just as they were closing their doors, but owner Chris Evers let us in anyway. While purchasing my books, Chris told me that his father, Alf was the author of two books on the region: The Catskills: From Wilderness to Woodstock, and a newer book – Kingston. My parents have had a copy of The Catskills on their bookshelf for a while, and I’ve been meaning to read it, so Chris was able to get me a signed first edition to take home.

I was able to find a good selection of sf,f&h books to bring back and will list them in the new arrivals section as soon as I can. Both Richard and Chris were happy to have someone who has use for them take them off their hands. Here’s a short list of a few titles, all first edition hardcovers unless noted otherwise:

Wizard at Large – Terry Brooks

The Cat Who Walks Through Walls – Robert Heinlein

The Stephen King Companion – George Beahm (ed.) [UK Edition]

Boy’s Life – Robert R. McCammon

With a Tangled Skein – Piers Anthony

Ubik – Philip K. Dick [paperback]

Eyes of the Dragon – Stephen King

Smith of Wootton Major & Farmer Giles of Ham – J.R.R. Tolkien [3rd printing m.m. paperback]

The Talisman – Stephen King & Peter Straub

Nothing too obscure, but all in VG or better condition. We also have a bunch of books coming in from Cemetery Dance, Earthling Publications and Subterranean Press which will be in the new arrivals section with the others as they come in and get listed.

Happy reading!! – Cynthia
