Coyote Monitoring

I’ve written once or twice about the small parcels of woods and power lines that lay behind and along our property. That’s where I go to walk our crazy puppy on a daily basis.  Our house is on a busy road with no sidewalk, so it’s really the only place to go walking.  And I’ve yet to encounter any of our neighbors walking on the trails back there, which is an added bonus in these still-early stages of training Thorin.

Carolyn at Roundtop Ruminations posted last week about intently studying a small patch of forest in front of her cabin, which reminded me about my desire to start focusing on the coyotes that reside around our house. I decided months ago that this winter I would start tracking the movements of our resident coyotes, and try to get a sense of their habits and patterns. I’ve gotten to know the woods around us a bit better over the past year and a half of walking there first with Freya and now with Thorin. I’ll post occasional updates about my findings. If things are interesting enough, I hope to have a weekly or bi-weekly series of post about the happenings in our natural neighborhood.
