Windows on Wildlife: ‘For the Animal Shall Not Be Measured By Man’

Welcome to the 22nd edition of  Windows on Wildlife!  If you have a recent post about wildlife you would like to share – it can be anything: birds, insects, mammals – scroll down to the end of the post and add your site; I will compile and post all additions the following week. Please don’t forget to link back here (I’d love it if you’d add the Windows on Wildlife button to your post which you can find on our sidebar) and visit other blogs that have articles to share. Thanks for stopping by!

I’m going to take a page out of Rambling Wood’s Michelle’s blog, and share a favorite quote this week…

We need another and a wiser and perhaps a more mystical concept of animals….  We patronize them for their incompleteness, for their tragic fate of having taken form so far below ourselves. And therein we err, and greatly err. For the animal shall not be measured by man. In a world older and more complete than ours they move finished and complete, gifted with extensions of the senses we have lost or never attained, living by voices we shall never hear. They are not brethren, they are not underlings; they are other nations caught with ourselves in the net of life and time, fellow prisoners of the splendour and travail of the earth.

– Henry Beston, The Outermost House

Jenny at Just Photos by Me shared photos of wolverines last week. And frozen wolverine treats. That is, frozen treats (filled with mice, apparently) FOR wolverines, not frozen treats containing wolverines. Just so you know.
