Windows on Wildlife: Red Squirrel

Welcome to the 5th edition of Windows on Wildlife!  If you have a recent post about wildlife you’d like to share – it can be anything: birds, insects, mammals – scroll down to the end of the post and add your site; a compilation of all additions will be posted the following week.  Please don’t forget to link back here (I’d love it if you’d add the Windows on Wildlife button on the sidebar to your post) and visit other blogs that have articles to share.  Thanks for stopping by!

This little cutie visited us a few winters back, when we were still putting bird feeders out in the yard. We stopped using feeders in 2010 when bears became a bit of a problem in our town. I never got around to putting them up last winter, but hope to this year, once things get cold enough for the bears to go into their winter lethargy (I’m still having issues with the whole hibernation thing).

I love red squirrels – they’re feisty, loud and not nearly as frequently seen as gray squirrels, which makes seeing them that much more fun. And they’re pretty darned cute. It’s tempting to be put out by the fact that squirrels and chipmunks get into our bird feeders, but as a birder friend of mine once observed, if you’re going to open up a restaurant, you really can’t discriminate against who walks in the door.  Fair enough.

What wildlife are you seeing where you live (or work, or play)?

====================================================

Last week we had four articles for the fourth edition of Windows on Wildlife – hooray!  The lovely (and hilarious) Jenny at Cheetahs in my Shoes, shared photos of a very large, and very chill frog. If you haven’t yet had a chance to check out her blog, be sure you do – she’s absolutely delightful.  A Fun Travel Cat had an encounter with a gorgeous Macaw named Angus, and Fergeimoto at Creativity Aroused caught the most beautiful picture of a baby Mule Deer. You just have to see these ears. And we were joined by Michelle at Rambling Woods who shared a plethora of amazing wildlife photos, my favorite being the Stream Bluet.  Be sure to check out her amazing photography.

Many thanks to last week’s participants!  If you have a recent wildlife post to share, be sure to join us through the link-in system below!
