My Day, One Explosion After Another

It’s nearly 7 PM and I’m just getting time to sit down and write a post for the day. And I only have about 5 minutes, so I’ll have to be brief.  Today was a day where pretty much everything fell apart. It started off with a power outage which is what got us out of bed – no matter what time of night or morning, if the fan that I keep going for white noise shuts off, it wakes me right away. Apparently the humidifier in my boys’ room has the same effect on them, since we all woke up together. Obo was already gone to work for the day.

Unable to heat water (quickly, anyway – I didn’t have time for a wood stove-top breakfast this morning) or toast a bagel, I resigned myself to breakfast on the road, and fed the kids cereal and yogurt. Or tried to. As I set the granola in front of my oldest, he complained that his stomach hurt. This isn’t new, he’s been having stomach trouble on and off for a few weeks. I gave him a banana instead, which he reluctantly ate.

On the way to drop off my youngest at daycare, Oldest spoke up and said that his stomach REALLY hurt. I pulled over, but couldn’t get him out of the car on time. Puke all over the inside of the van.  Awesome. I cleaned up once we got to daycare (struggling not to add to the mess  – puke really makes me want to be sick), and then turned around back home – Oldest and I would have to stay home for the day.

After making all the appropriate calls to school and work and hubby, I set Oldest in front of the TV and took a nap – I didn’t get much sleep last night and really needed more rest. That was really the only part of my day that went better than planned. And given how the rest of my day went, I should have stayed in bed. The power was back on by the time we got home, but might as well not have been. My computer, printer and mouse all were malfunctioning. Printing a single sheet of paper was a half-hour job, and after I got it working, it seemed hungry… and ate the shipping label I was trying to print.  That would be over $6 in postage, thanks. My printer has expensive taste it would seem.

I won’t get into the other minutia of my day. I have to go and put my little one to bed, and then get out the door for an appointment.  Here’s to hoping tomorrow is a little easier.

  1. I hope you get a chance to unwind tonight and have a nice glass of wine or something. Sounds like a tough day! I had to pick my little guy up from daycare today. He had a fever and fell asleep on the living room floor when we got home (his choice). At least there weren’t any messes to clean up. I hope tomorrow is better!

    1. Thanks Jennifer! So far no power outages or vomiting, so the day’s already looking up!

    1. He’s definitely feeling better – felt better right away, in fact but he can’t go to school after throwing up, so stayed home with me. My car, however, is far from fine. Despite my best efforts to both clean and deodorize it, it still smells. Ugh.
